Using Essential Questions to Unpack the Science Standards:
Grades 6-8

Workshop Description

In this two-day session, participants will discover how essential questions can effectively guide instructional planning.  We will unpack the 2018 Mississippi Career- and College-Readiness Standards for Science and identify instructional activities that purposefully answer essential questions designed to actively engage students in thinking about their own learning.

Grade Band: 6th – 8th

Dates: June 4 – 5, 2019

Time: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, one-hour lunch break each day

Location: Jackson Avenue Center, Oxford, MS

Registration fee: $250 per participant; includes materials and 1.2 CEUs

Facilitator

Dr. Whitney Jackson joined the Center for Mathematics and Science Education in 2018 as the Science Professional Development Coordinator. After graduating from Mississippi College, Dr. Jackson taught at Raymond Elementary School in Hinds County. More recently, she taught a mix of science and language arts to middle schoolers at North Pontotoc.  As a CMSE graduate research fellow, Dr. Jackson also led professional development sessions both locally and nationally.
