Project PrIME was funded through the Mississippi Department of Education’s Mathematics and Science Partnership (MSP) program. Since 2010, over 130 teachers have participated in the PrIME Summer Institute. Here’s what they have to say about their experience:
PrIME has totally changed my way of teaching and I am proud to say that I am part of PrIME.
PrIME Summer Institute is by far the best training I have had as an educator. No other staff development has placed me in the position of a student to learn from the experience so I could teach through self discovery.
PrIME offers hands-on, minds-on experiences that engage teachers in problem solving tasks where other programs do not.
PrIME has been instrumental in increasing the joy I get from teaching!
PrIME 2.0 is a continuation of this work…
Prime 2.0 will offer a four course sequence for mathematics teachers in grades 4-8.
Course 1 is a two-week summer institute focused on developing a deeper understanding of the concepts of number and operations while engaging in the standards for mathematical practice. Research-based instructional strategies are modeled and discussed. Through this course, teachers will gain access to the PrIME online community of teachers that are working together to make a difference in their classrooms.
Course 2 is a one-week summer institute that builds off of the information learned in Course 1 with a content focus on geometry and a continuation of the discussion of standards-based instructional strategies.
Course 3 takes a deeper look at understanding measurement, while Course 4 focuses on Probability and Statistics. These are also one-week courses that will run alternately each year.
